A Generational Bloom

After my grandmother passed away this last spring, I took home a portion of her potted red-veined maranta. The leafy plant once belonged to her mother-in-law, my Great Grandmother Stone.

A move from Missouri to the northwest and three generations later ... a late summer bloom upon my kitchen counter.

  1. I'm not familiar with this plant but the bloom is beautiful. Plants that are passed along and nurtured by the generations are something special, aren't they?

  2. Very pretty flower. Plants are special to me and my family too. My Grandpa owned a rhododendron nursery, so several of my plants in our yard are grown from starts that he planted years ago. They bring back memories of going out into the field and talking with him when he was hoeing, rototilling or selling plants to customers.

Little bit of luck on this one. I used a macro lens and the white is the windowsill in the background. The light was good, the flower at just the right height...I wish I could say it was skill!
